Mobile App Development

An app your customers or staff open every day because it does one job well, even on a weak signal. We design and build for iOS, Android or both, connect it to the systems you already use, and look after it after launch.

  • Apps
  • 7 deliverables
  • Set with you at the start

Who it is for

Sound familiar?

  • Your customers keep asking whether there is an app

  • Field staff lose work because the signal drops halfway through a form

  • You have a web product that now needs to live on people's phones

  • A previous app was launched once and never updated again

What you receive

What you receive

Agreed in writing before the work starts. You choose the pace. We agree the schedule with you at the start.
mobile-app-development.scope7 items
  • App design for the key flows, tried as a clickable prototype first
  • A working app for iOS, Android or both, from one shared codebase where that makes sense
  • The server the app talks to, and connections to your existing systems
  • Sign-in, push notifications and payments where the app needs them
  • Offline behaviour for the actions that must work without a connection
  • Submission to the App Store and Play Store, with the listing material they require
  • Source code, credentials and a recorded walkthrough
Everything we produce, and every login, is yours to keep.

The Path

How it runs

Five phases, the same on every project. You choose the pace. We agree the schedule with you at the start.
  1. Starts day one

    Listen

    A documented brief

  2. Before any build

    Shape

A technical plan, screen layouts and a scope you can hold us to

  3. Built in sprints you can see

    Build

A working demo at every sprint

  4. When you are ready

    Launch

Every source file, login and a recorded walkthrough

  5. Ongoing

    Evolve

A portal where every request and approval is on record

Evolve leads back to Listen, so the work keeps improving for as long as you want it to.

The detail

Mobile app development is for businesses and founders who want customers or staff to use an app on their phones. We design and build for iOS, Android or both, connect the app to the systems you already run, and keep it working as phones and operating systems change.

What does it take to build a mobile app?

More than the screens. An app needs a design people understand at a glance, the app itself, the server it talks to, sign-in, notifications, payments where needed, and submission to the App Store and Play Store.

It also depends on the system behind it. A booking app is no use if bookings never reach your calendar. We treat the app and everything it connects to as one piece of work.

Native or cross-platform?

A cross-platform app uses one shared set of code for iOS and Android. We build these with Flutter or React Native, and they suit most business apps. One codebase means one set of fixes and updates that stay in step.

A native app is written separately for each phone system, in Swift for iOS and Kotlin for Android. We choose native when the app leans heavily on device features or needs every bit of speed. Either way, we explain the choice and what it means for cost and upkeep before you decide.

Can a mobile app work offline?

Yes, and for many businesses that is the reason to build an app at all. A field team marking inspections, a driver confirming drop-offs or a sales rep taking orders in a market with poor coverage cannot wait for a signal.

We design offline behaviour at the start, because it is far harder to add later. We decide which data lives on the phone, which actions wait in a queue until the signal returns, and what happens when two people change the same record.

How we build your app

We start with who will use the app, where they will use it and which systems it must talk to. Then we map the screens and make a clickable prototype you can try on your own phone before any build begins.

The build runs in short cycles, each ending with a version you install and use. Before launch we test on real devices across versions and screen sizes, prepare the store listings and submit. You receive the source code, credentials and a recorded walkthrough.

What does a good mobile app look like?

It opens quickly and does its main job in a few taps. It copes with a poor connection and says plainly when something fails. It follows the conventions people expect on their own phone, and it sends only the notifications people want to read. Behind it, the code is documented, the store accounts are yours, and the next update does not depend on anyone's memory.

How the TechSum Standard applies to your app
  • Secure by default: sign-in, stored data and the connection to your server are protected from the first build, and the app asks only for the phone permissions it truly needs.
  • Built to scale: the server behind the app is set up so more users means a bigger plan, not a rewrite.
  • Tested before it ships: every release is installed and tried on real phones, not only on a simulator, before it goes to the stores.
  • Looked after after launch: operating system updates arrive every year, and a Care Retainer keeps the app working through them.
  • Small changes handled, not invoiced: a wording change on a screen or a fix to a store listing gets done, not quoted.
  • Honest advice: if a well-built website would serve your users just as well, you hear that from us before you commit to an app.
When an app is not what you need

If people would open it once a month, a fast website or a web app that installs from the browser usually does the job for less. If the idea is untested, start with an MVP or a Product Discovery Sprint before a large build. If you need a game or an app built around very specialised hardware, we may not be the right team, and we will say so.

What your app connects to

Apps rarely stand alone. Apps that sell need payment gateway integration. Apps whose customers also talk to you on WhatsApp may need the WhatsApp Business API. Staff apps often feed business dashboards, and the servers behind them sit in Digital Infrastructure. One team builds and looks after the whole chain.

FAQ

Questions we get asked

Should I build for iOS, Android or both?

It depends on who your users are and where they live. In some markets Android reaches far more people, and in others iOS matters more. We look at your actual users and recommend. A cross-platform build often covers both from one shared codebase.

What is the difference between native and cross-platform apps?

Native apps are written separately for each phone system and can use every device feature. Cross-platform apps, built with Flutter or React Native, share most of their code between iOS and Android, which keeps the build and every later update simpler. For most business apps cross-platform is enough, and we tell you when it is not.

Can the app work without internet?

Yes, if we plan for it early. The data and actions that matter stay on the phone and sync when the connection returns. This suits field teams, deliveries and places with weak coverage.

Who publishes the app to the App Store and Play Store?

We prepare and submit it, but the store accounts belong to you. That way you own the listing and can move to another team whenever you choose. Apple and Google set their own review rules and times, so we plan around them.

Do we need an app, or would a website do?

Often a fast website, or a web app that installs from the browser, does the job for less. An app earns its place when people use it often, need it offline or rely on phone features like the camera or notifications. We will tell you which side of that line you are on.
