System side

Digital Infrastructure

Systems that stay up and bills that make sense: cloud, hosting, backups and email that lands.

Digital Infrastructure at TechSum is for businesses whose website, app or email simply has to keep working. We set up and run the cloud, hosting, backups, monitoring and email behind them, so they stay up, stay secure and cost what they should.

  • 8 kinds of work
  • 4 ways to work

Who it is for

Is this you?

  • The server was set up by someone who left, and only they knew how it works

  • The cloud bill goes up every month, and nobody can explain why

  • Your invoices and proposals land in your customers' spam folders

  • Nobody has ever tried restoring the backups

What we do

Eight ways we make it happen

Each one starts with what changes for you, then how we do it. The ones with their own page go deeper. Whichever you need, the same standard applies, and the same team does the work.

What you get

What you get, whatever the size

Whatever the size of the job, you receive these, phase by phase. Nothing is held back at the end.

The Path

How we run it

Five phases, the same on every project. You choose the pace. We agree the schedule with you at the start.

In detail

Who Digital Infrastructure suits, what we build, how the TechSum Standard applies and when we are not the right team. Open the ones you care about.

Digital Infrastructure at TechSum is for businesses whose website, app or email must keep working. We set up and run the cloud, servers and tools you depend on, so they stay up, stay secure and cost what they should. We also fix the basics behind most outages: backups, monitoring and email setup.

What is digital infrastructure?

Everything underneath your website, app and email: the servers, cloud accounts, databases, domain settings, backups, the way updates go live, and the tools your staff use every day. When it works, nobody notices. When it fails, the business stops.

Good infrastructure is mostly routine work done early and often: applying updates, monitoring, testing recovery and watching cost.

Who is it for?

Businesses whose site goes down at the worst moment, or depends on the one person who set up the server. Teams with a cloud bill they cannot explain. Companies whose invoices and proposals land in spam. Organisations that want Google Workspace or Microsoft 365 set up with sensible security from the start.

If cost is the worry, start with the Cloud Cost Review. It shows where spend leaks and what to change, in a short written report. For a broader scan, try the free health check.

What does TechSum set up and run?
  • Cloud architecture and migration on AWS, Google Cloud or Azure.
  • DevOps, CI/CD and release automation. DevOps is how software is built and run together. CI/CD means every change is tested and released automatically, so putting updates live is routine.
  • Managed hosting and server management.
  • Cloud cost optimisation. See cloud cost optimisation.
  • Self-hosting and management of business tools you want to own and run on your own servers.
  • Backups, disaster recovery and uptime monitoring.
  • Email and domain health through SPF, DKIM and DMARC. See email deliverability.
  • Google Workspace and Microsoft 365 setup and administration.

Everything else runs on this. Infrastructure and security go together, so this work often runs alongside Trust, Security & Compliance, and for sites we build, hosting and care are part of Web Design & Development. When the team that builds your website and apps also runs the servers, an outage is one call, not a chain of suppliers blaming each other.

How does an infrastructure project run?

We use The Path. Listen ends in an honest list of what you have: what runs where, who has access, what it costs and what has no backup. Shape sets the target setup and a safe order of changes, with a way to undo each step. Build makes the changes and moves things in stages. Launch includes a restore test and a handover of step-by-step recovery guides and logins. Evolve is the ongoing work: monitoring, updates and cost reviews.

We never change a live system without a way back, and we tell you beforehand what will change and when. The TechSum Standard applies throughout:

  • Secure by default: limited access, updated servers, firewalls and email authentication are part of the setup, never an add-on.
  • Built to scale: hosting chosen so more traffic means a bigger plan, not a rushed migration.
  • Tested before it ships: every change tried outside the live system first, and backups restored on a schedule to prove they work.
  • Looked after after launch: monitoring, security updates and cost reviews carry on. An alert reaches a person, and every action is logged.
  • Small changes handled, not invoiced: a new mailbox, a DNS record or a renewed certificate gets done. It does not become a quote.
  • Honest advice, even when it means less work for us: if a simpler host or a managed platform costs less and does the job, we recommend it.
How do you know your infrastructure is in good shape?

Putting changes live is routine, not an event. If a server fails, an alert reaches a person and a written recovery plan exists. Backups are tested, not assumed. Access is limited to the people who need it. The monthly cloud bill is understood line by line. Email authenticates properly and reaches inboxes.

When are we not the right team?

If you need a round-the-clock operations centre with staffed shifts, we are not set up for that, and we will say so. If your needs are small, a managed platform may cost less than a custom setup, and we will recommend it.

To talk about your setup, tell us what you need.

FAQ

Questions we get asked

Can you reduce our cloud bill?

Often, yes. Money leaks through machines left running, servers bigger than needed, forgotten storage and costly data transfers. The Cloud Cost Review shows where yours goes and what to change. We never promise a saving in advance.

Do you work with AWS, Google Cloud and Azure?

Yes. We design and migrate on all three, and choose based on your team, your software and your costs. We will also tell you when a simpler host is enough.

What does managed hosting include?

We take responsibility for the servers: updates, security patches, backups, monitoring and responding to alerts. The exact scope is agreed in writing, so you know what is covered.

How do you test backups?

A backup you have never restored is a guess. We run restore tests on a schedule and record the results, so you know recovery works before you need it.

Why does our email go to spam?

Usually the domain is missing the settings called SPF, DKIM and DMARC, which tell receiving mail servers your messages are genuine. We set them up and check the results, so invoices and proposals reach the inbox.

Cloud Cost Review

See where your cloud bill is leaking and what to change first, with the saving and the risk of each change in one written report.

  • A breakdown of your cloud spend by service, by test or live setup and by owner
  • A list of unused, oversized and duplicated resources
  • Storage, data transfer and backup costs reviewed
  • Quick changes you can make straight away
  • Ends in a short written report you keep
