A way to work

Build, Operate, Transfer

We build it, run it, then hand it over with the team and the knowledge.

Build, Operate, Transfer is for businesses that want a working product now and a team of their own later. We build the product, run it while your people learn alongside us, and hand everything over on an agreed date. You do not have to hire a full team before you can start.

Three phases

How does Build, Operate, Transfer work?

Three phases, each with its own fee: a build fee, a monthly operate fee and a transfer fee. You know the shape of the cost before the first phase begins, and each phase ends with something you can inspect.
  1. Phase 1 of 3

    Build

    TechSum builds, your hires join

    Build fee

We design and build the product or platform, set up the hosting and the working processes, write the documentation, and help you hire the team that will own it. Hiring starts early on purpose: the people who will take over need to learn the product while it is being made.

Security is part of the first build, and every release is tested before it goes live. Build work follows The Path, so you see a working demo at every sprint. For a new product the starting point is usually Product Development, and for the technical decisions underneath it, Tech Consultancy.

  2. Phase 2 of 3

    Operate

TechSum runs it, your team alongside

    Monthly operate fee

Once the product is live, we run it to the service standards we agreed, with monitoring, updates and security fixes. Your new team works beside ours and takes on tasks step by step, trained on the real system, not on slides.

Every guide, decision and login is written down as we go. Small fixes are part of running it, not extra invoices. If something goes wrong, your team sees how it is handled and why.

  3. Phase 3 of 3

    Transfer

    Your team owns it

    Transfer fee

On an agreed date, the code, hosting, guides, accounts and day-to-day ownership move to you. Nothing is held back, and nothing depends on us to keep running. After that, run it entirely yourselves, or keep us on a Care Retainer while your team grows into it.

Fit

Is it right for you?

  • Who is Build, Operate, Transfer for?

    • Companies setting up an in-house product or engineering team who want to start with a working product rather than an empty office.
    • Businesses in the Gulf and elsewhere building their own technology centre, who want a delivery partner for the first stretch and a clean exit afterwards.
    • Founders who want to start fast without staying dependent on a vendor.

It works best when you are ready to hire or name real people during the Build phase, because those people are the point of the exercise.

  • How do the fees work?

There are three fees. The build fee covers phase one. The operate fee is monthly for as long as we run the product. The transfer fee covers the handover and the training that comes with it. Amounts are agreed before work starts and written into the engagement.

  • When is Build, Operate, Transfer not the right choice?

If you never want to hold the technology yourself, Managed Services is simpler. If the scope is small and finite, a Fixed-Scope Project is cleaner, and its handover already includes every source file and login. If you want our team to stay on a long roadmap, a Dedicated Team is closer.

It is also a poor fit if nobody is ready to take over yet. Transfer needs someone to receive it. If your situation points to another model, even a smaller one, we will say so early.

Let's Talk

What do you want to own at the end?

Tell us what you are building and who you expect to run it. We will say plainly whether this model fits, what the first phase would involve, and whether a smaller model would serve you better.
