Cloud Cost Optimisation
A cloud bill that grows faster than your business usually means you are paying for things nobody uses. We find the waste in your AWS, Google Cloud or Azure account, fix the safe items ourselves and set alerts so it stays fixed.

Who it is for
Sound familiar?
Your cloud bill has grown faster than your traffic, and nobody can say why
Your startup's free credits are about to run out
You inherited a cloud account that nobody fully understands
Finance asks what a charge is for, and engineering cannot answer quickly
What you receive
What you receive
- A review of billing and usage across your cloud accounts
- A ranked list of savings, with the risk and effort of each
- Safe fixes: smaller servers where the load allows, unused resources removed, cheaper storage and data transfer
- Tags (labels) so each cost shows which product and team it belongs to
- Budgets and alerts that warn you before the bill surprises you
- A plan for fixed-term discounts (commitments) where your usage is steady enough
- A short written report and a handover to your team

The detail
Cloud cost optimisation is for businesses whose AWS, Google Cloud or Azure bill has grown faster than their use of it. We find what you are paying for but do not need, fix the safe items ourselves, and set up tags and alerts so the bill does not creep back.
Why is my cloud bill so high?
Cloud providers charge for everything that is switched on, busy or not. That makes waste easy to create and hard to see. The usual causes:
- Servers and databases larger than the load needs.
- Test and staging environments left running overnight and at weekends.
- Disks and snapshots that outlived the machines they belonged to.
- Data moving between regions, or out to the internet, more than it needs to.
- Logs kept far longer than anyone reads them.
- Services paid at the full rate that would cost less on a fixed-term commitment, or commitments bought for usage that has since dropped.
- No tags, so nobody knows which product or team owns which cost.
How we bring the bill down
We start with read-only access to billing and usage, and a conversation about what the system does, which parts are critical and what must never go down.
Then we rank every finding by likely saving, risk and effort, and agree with you which to make now, which to schedule and which to leave. We make the agreed changes in small steps, measuring after each one: removing unused resources, moving to smaller servers where the load allows, switching to cheaper storage, trimming log retention and putting test environments to sleep when nobody is using them. Anything risky is tried away from your live system first.
Finally the safeguards: tags that link every cost to a product and an owner, budgets and alerts that warn a real person when spending leaves its pattern, and a worked view of whether a commitment would pay off. If your setup is written as code, the changes are made there so they last.
How the TechSum Standard applies to cost work
- Secure by default: we work with read-only access wherever we can, and nothing that protects your data, such as backups or encryption, is cut to save money.
- Built to scale: the result is a bill that rises and falls with your traffic, not one that jumps every time you grow.
- Tested before it ships: risky changes are tried away from your live system first, and every change has a way back.
- Looked after after launch: we review the first full billing cycle after the changes, and a monthly look at spend can continue through Managed Services.
- Small changes handled, not invoiced: a stray resource or an alert that needs adjusting gets sorted, not quoted.
- Honest advice: if your bill is small, the work may cost more than it saves, and we will say so before you spend anything.
Is this only about spending less?
No. Sometimes the right answer is to spend a little more on staying online when something fails, such as backups in a second region or better monitoring, and we recommend that when the risk justifies it. The goal is a bill where every line has a reason.
When cost work is not what you need
If the cost comes from how the product was built, and the real answer is a redesign, that is a bigger conversation, best had through tech consultancy. We also will not change systems that nobody can describe until we understand them.
What cost work connects to
Cloud costs sit next to everything else that keeps you running. Backups, recovery and uptime monitoring are part of Digital Infrastructure. A clean domain and mail setup is email deliverability. Investors and buyers often ask about cloud spend during technical due diligence. One team looks at the bill and the systems behind it together.
Where do we start?
For a first look with a clear end, start with the Cloud Cost Review, or tell us about your bill.

FAQ
Questions we get asked
How much will we save?
We cannot give a number before we see your account, and we will not guess one to win the work. The review ranks every opportunity with its effort and risk, so you decide what is worth doing. Where there is little to cut, we tell you that.
Is it safe to change live systems to save money?
We rank changes by risk, start with the lowest and make changes at agreed times, with a way to undo each one. Anything that could affect your users is discussed with you before we touch it.
Do you work on AWS, Google Cloud and Azure?
Yes, all three. The causes of waste are much the same everywhere, even though the tools and names differ.
Is there a smaller way to start?
Yes, the Cloud Cost Review. It looks at where your money is leaking and what to change, and ends in a short written report you keep.
Will the costs creep back?
They can, which is why tags, budgets and alerts are part of the work, not an extra. A light monthly look at spend, through Managed Services, helps if your usage changes often.
