Comnet E-Waste

One system where a buyer checks the licence, books a pickup and later downloads a certificate, and where the Comnet team runs jobs, customers and quotes, with the old WordPress content carried across.

The problem

An MPCB-authorised e-waste recycler on an old WordPress site needed a website that proves its licence and process to auditors, books pickups from anywhere in India, and a back office that issues the certificates its customers have to show.

What we did

One team covered each of these. The full story, from the problem to what changed, is below.

Comnet E-waste is an authorised e-waste recycler with its own plant in Maharashtra. We built its website, a public certificate check, a customer portal and the staff system that runs its pickups, so a buyer can see the licence, book a collection and download a certificate in one place.

What was the problem?

By its own description, Comnet E-waste LLP collects old laptops, servers and other IT equipment from offices anywhere in India, destroys the data and recycles the rest at its own plant. Its customers are companies, banks, hospitals, schools and government offices, and most of them need paperwork they can show an auditor.

That shapes everything. A buyer wants to check the licence before booking. A facilities manager wants to say where the equipment is and ask for a pickup in a few minutes. After the job, someone needs the certificate. Behind all of that, the Comnet team needs one place to run jobs, customers and quotations. The old WordPress site did none of this.

What did we do?

This is web design and development and application development built together, so the public site and the back office share the same records.

  • A site of about 50 pages. Services such as data destruction, IT asset disposal, data centre clearance and buy-back. Eight industry pages. Service area pages for Pune, Mumbai and Ahilyanagar. A page on the plant, and a section on the 2022 e-waste rules with sources and dates.
  • The licence in public. The consent holder, capacity, validity and the public source are on the page, with a PDF. Where a registration has not been confirmed by Comnet yet, the page says it is pending instead of guessing.
  • A pickup form. A visitor says what they have, roughly how much, and gives a state, city and pincode. They can also use WhatsApp or the phone, and the form asks if they need a GST invoice.
  • A public certificate check. Anyone can enter a certificate number and see its type, issue date, weight, method and status, with nothing confidential about the customer shown.
  • A chain of custody you can read. Seven steps from pickup to certificate, each with the paper record it leaves.
  • A customer portal. Customers log in to download certificates, and it installs on a phone as a web app.
  • A staff system. Pages for today's work, jobs, customers, requests, quotes and certificates. Quotation PDFs are stored privately and open only to people with the right access.

We moved the old site without breaking it. The previous WordPress site stays untouched as a separate copy. Export and import scripts pulled its content across, a redirect map sends old addresses to the right new page, and a crawl script and screenshot checks test every page of the new site.

How is the content and data looked after?

Page content lives in Payload CMS, and the Comnet team edits it in the admin. Only the website collections can be read without a login. The staff and portal collections need one, because they hold customers' records.

The pages on the e-waste rules, EPR targets and the DPDP Act explain what the published rules say and name the source of each point. They are not legal advice. TechSum builds and publishes the pages, partner counsel advises on legal interpretation, and certification goes through accredited bodies. Read how we handle this under trust, security and compliance.

For search, each page opens with a short answer-first summary, FAQs written the way people ask them, and structured data for the organisation and the plant, so search engines and AI assistants read the same facts a buyer sees. See search and answer visibility.

The site runs as a Node application on a CloudPanel server we look after, behind nginx, with the database and uploads kept outside the code. A release means pulling the code, building it and restarting one process. It is part of our digital infrastructure work.

What changed?

  • The marketing site, pickup form, certificate check and portal login are live at comnetewaste.com, so a buyer can verify the licence and book a pickup without a phone call.
  • Customers download their own certificates, and the team runs jobs and quotes in one system.
  • Pickup and search results: [RESULT TO CONFIRM]. The analytics and Search Console properties are new, so there is nothing fair to show yet.
  • Some registrations are still waiting on Comnet, for example the CPCB EPR registration number. Until it arrives, those lines stay marked as pending.
